Ludwig
Another distorted panorama of the mill and town site. Sometimes that panorama mode just can't hack it. But it does serve to give a view of the area
More of the elaborate vandal art
Oddly shaped columns
One of many collections of debris
Another view of a "mill."
The inside of one of the underground concrete "septic tanks" which is fed by a pipe. But for what? And what's with the wall? His and hers?
Part of the Douglas Hill Mine east of the site
Somehow, "Come on, boys! There's copper in them thar hills!" just doesn't have the same ring to it This copper forced itself between a couple of rocks and was exposed here.
A panorama of the townsite
At the townsite, looking at the debris field
Some of the pipe that's just laying around at Ludwig. Why? I need to know.
Perhaps the precursor to the concrete pillbox?
Close up of the pipe feeding the sump
Old hole in top can
A photo borrowed from Nell Murbarger's book, Ghosts of the Glory Trail, (1956) which I believe she took, showing Ludwig in much better shape than we found it.
A bottle waiting to be rescued
You can see the copper beckoning you to come in and take it.
Another view of the brick structure. My guess is that this is older than the concrete structures, bricks being in common use before concrete. Another view as Emperor Roberticus Maximus addresses the citizens of Ludwig. Around the mines the rock is loose and decayed
Quite the large panorama of the mill site looking in an easterly direction.
Photo of the Nevada-Douglas Mine from the book
" LYON COUNTY- WHERE IT IS, AND WHAT IT CONTAINS: Close to California, made up of rich valleys and mineral-laden hills, it still has available lands at reasonable prices, and is an ideal homing spot."
by CORA FAY WHITE, 1913(?)
The setting sun casts a golden glow on the mill at Ludwig
An empty tobacco can
Looking SW. the sun sets over the Pine Nut Mountains as darkness falls on Smith Valley and Ludwig
